So, for this shoot, I decided to go a little outside the box.
I wanted to go outside the box on this one a bit. Two of you have used Bingbing Fan to achieve great things, so obviously photos of her looking glamorous next to a handbag or lounging languidly on a luxurious bedspread aren't likely to have that "Wow" factor that'll really push me into the hallowed echelons of Bingbing victors.
So I went with something that was a bit more daring, and a more interesting interpretation of using sex to sell a product.
~ Bingbing Fan selling World of Warcraft subscriptions ~
Sex sells just about anything, but if there's one demographic where it's used to perhaps its most devastating effect, it would have to be the videogaming industry.
Videogaming is primarily a solo activity, but MMORPGs like World of Warcraft are much more geared towards communal activities. If you're playing Tomb Raider, you're sitting by yourself on a coach. If you're playing WoW, you join a guild, you work with them to achieve your goals. It's a game designed specifically for people who are looking for other people to interact with. That makes sex an even more influential factor for these players, because it meets the needs that the demographic is looking to fulfill: intimacy and desirability. The sexiness here comes from more than just the gorgeous face or the lacy skirt, those are sexy things you can find on the characters you can create in the game; what Bingbing is really doing in this photo is selling the fantasy of herself as a gorgeous flesh-and-blood female, one who's playing the game right alongside you. Play this game, and you might meet a gorgeous woman with similarly nerdy interests and be desirable to her because of the very things that the rest of society ostracizes you for. The guys at work might not be impressed by your +10 rod of lordly might, says this ad, but Bingbing can't wait to get a look at it.
Also, I did whip up a little thingamajig in Photoshop depicting how it'd look with a WoW background to really showcase the fantasy elements, but I felt that it was just a tad too distracting and cluttered to want to use it for the submission.
