This week, your assignment was a photoshoot dedicated to me, RuPaul. You were required to submit a picture that represented a title of one of my many, many songs.
Team B:
Britney: Climate Change
Britney: Climate Change
Janice: Because of your lack of explanation, which I will remind you was required for this photoshoot, I am having a bit of a problem identifying this with climate change? What aspect of climate change? Is this showing a natural climate change, or a man made one? Is this endorsing climate change? Climate scepticism? A tree without leaves has never been uncommon, especially in winter. There's also green grass, which isn't uncommon in winter either. Meanwhile, modelling is solid, fashion is okay.
Britney: I'm not sure what happened to my explanations. I guess my copy-paste skills wasn't good enough
Climate change is a significant and lasting change in average weather conditions due to the global warming so that's what I want to portray in my photo this week. The tree symbolizes the effect of the climate change and my outfit reflects on what we might have to wear someday in order to survive due to the climate change. The tree symbolize the effects of climate change in term of its appearance. There's no leaves and the color of the trunk reflects that the tree has died from the climate change.
Morgan: Morgan spies a cameltoe! Although this pleases my eyes it is effecting the fashion and your modelling. The fashion you are wearing is also creating sagginess in areas that should be pert, as you can tell I am expert in this area.
Even though your setting may be affected by climate change you are still trying to shine bright as a model with your head held high. The setting is intriguing it looks somewhat alien like (and you are suited up to face any alien activity!) however I am unsure if it fits a accurate prediction of how climate change may affect the world.
C. Viper: I was able to get the connection to your theme without the description, but the description was nice to confirm what I thought you were going for here. It's not a home run, but it's there and easily noticeable (in my eyes). The outfit is an interesting choice and you did a good job tying it to your theme, so it works. I'm not a big fan of your face, though. We have an expression for this back where I come from. "It looks like you just smelled shit." Other than that, it's a really solid photo.

Ginny: Education
Education has been a hot topic issue for years now. What it comes down too in most terms is money. The cutting of funds and substitution of grants for loans to be paid back to the government. In grade school through high school, more children are being home schooled due to teacher firings and cut backs. Parents believe they will do a better, if also cheaper, job of educating their children than the system can. Ginny represents a child pulled from school to learn at home, who is unhappy with the arrangement as she has been pulled away from her friends and social interaction with most people in general.

Janice: Okay, fair enough. The message you're trying to portray here is that we need more money into public education. I'm sure this is something Morgan feels very strongly about, so you might get brownie points here, whereas, you'd get brownie points with me if you brought me actual brownies. The cause is very well, but I'm having trouble linking your explanation to your picture, when it could easily also be linked to libraries and reading. Perhaps a more forlorn facial expression would have won me over a bit more. Meanwhile, a similar pose as Team B last week. The positioning or pose of the legs makes me uncomfortable.
Ginny: Girl has her bed behind her that her feet are propped up on and an empty butter beer bottle at her side. To me she is depressed in her room getting underage drunk due to her parents poor decision making as far as how to deal with budget cuts at public school. Even her teddy bear is upset. Love you, just wanted to get that out there.
Morgan: I do enjoy the relation to school as Morgan's real life alter ego is a prospective teacher. You don't overly pleased with the new arrangements as your frowned expression shows and the tasty alcoholic drink sitting next to you (love the Harry Potter ties in your description by the way).
There are some flaws in this photo from an artistic perspective (and considering I am not an artist so these comments may be uninformed) your eyebrows which are boldly shown through your hair is a little distracting and the positioning of your body makes you look a little plump. However you do look very pretty, innocent and school like.
C. Viper: Ok, so your connection to the theme is there. It's not the strongest connection I've seen, but it's there well-enough to work for the shoot. This is a shot that was definitely helped by your description since I wouldn't fully know what you were trying to say here without it. I don't mind the similarities to B's posing from last round. I don't see why it should matter since you're bound to have a pose similar to another team here and there. It's only when you start repeating your own stuff that it becomes a problem (which it hasn't, here). My problem with the pose is that it doesn't fully feel like a modeling pose. Your character was drawn in an obviously candid pose, which hurts the modeling quality of the shot.

Team Fire:
Ichigo: Freedom of Expression
The political issue that I had for this photoshoot was pro-freedom of expression. The main focus of this photo is the individuality of the characters. What even makes it more interesting is that all of the characters are modeled by just one person, Ichigo. I liked how each character had their own style that is completely different that from the other three which showcases individuality. The other aspect that gives each character more depth of individuality is the personalities that they are invoking that no two Ichigo are doing the exact same one. So use of one model to express four different distinct styles and personalities allows the individualism of the characters to shine through because they have the freedom to express themselves.

Janice: I'm not entirely sure freedom of expression is the best issue to go with here. Judging by your explanation, and your picture, I believe perhaps the concept of individuality and noncomformism may have been a better issue to tackle with this picture. Freedom of expression still works, and I realise that people, especially muslim women, have a huge battle with freedom of expression in the way that they are dressed. So I can see the idea behind that. Fashion, some great street fashion from all four Ichigos. I especially like it on albino Ichigo and hair clip Ichigo. Modelling is basic, and works well for catalogue. It does do its job, because I really want some of those clothes now, even though they'd look awful on me (But I'd still look better than that time Morgan tried to dress me). Overall, I'm pretty pleased with this attempt.
Morgan: Four men in the one photo, sounds like a movie I would want to be a part of.
Half of me understands the connection between freedom of expression and your photo and half of me doesn't understand that connection. I can see how the different personalities and fashion makeups of these handsome men represents freedom to express who you are. However when I think of freedom of expression I think of it literally in regards to free expression of opinions, ideals and beliefs. Individuality or nonconformity as Janice mentioned would have fit this photo better. In regards to your modelling I enjoy the androgyny, fashion and the hint of muscly goodness underneath your various getups. However the artistic detail in your face is lacking.
C. Viper: As soon as I saw your political issue, I saw the connection in your shot. I agree with Janice that you could have chosen a different issue that would have been a better match for the photo, but the one you chose works well-enough. You do have 4 different looks going on here, but at the core, they all still feel like you to me. Normally, that's a good thing, but with your theme, I would have liked a couple of the looks to not feel at all like you. I do really like the styling of all 4 of your looks here and I love that you're giving us different angles. You're facing forward in one shot, giving us 3/4 turns in different directions with two others, and giving us a profile with the last. Very good variety there and is probably my favorite aspect of the photo.

Anais: Women's Rights
This represents Women's Rights and the struggles that we are going through in 2013. Anais is struggling for the freedom to choose what to do with her body, to be able to choose her doctor and to be paid equally. As hard as women fought in the 60's and 70's for freedom it seems like even now we are ensnared in a net, unable to keep the freedoms our Mothers and Grandmothers fought so hard for.

Janice: Huge, huge, HUGE risk here, and I'm not entirely convinced it works based of photo alone. I understand the netting is symbolism for the feeling of being trapped or confined, but let's face it, it's a bad angle, we can hardly see anything, and the make up is horrible. Your explanation works in helping me understand it, and I understand it in a way that you're non-conforming to the principles of society in that, but first and foremost, it's a fashion and modelling competition. This loses a few elements for me.
Morgan: Sorry about that net Anais but I promise you I am a good person, I just need to have you restrained until that fact dawns upon you. Oh! This is your photoshoot submission, my bad.
As Janice mentioned this is a huge risk, I am a fan of risks but this risk has stolen a lot of your modelling. From a symbolic standpoint this photo is strong as it represents a realistic and contemporary struggle a struggle that is hard, messy and consuming. Unfortunately your modelling has also become messy in this photo, your facial proportions have become lopsided in the net and your arms have lost their shape due to the camera angle and the positioning.
C. Viper: The symbolism works great with your chosen issue and I appreciate the artistry of the shot. That said, I'm really not a fan of the execution of the shot. A lot of the problems Janice has with the shot, I have with the shot. The angle doesn't let us see you well and I'm not a fan of the makeup job.
Legally Blonde:
Agyness: Gender Identity
"Gender identity is a person's private sense, and subjective experience, of their own gender. This is generally described as one's private sense of being a man or a woman, consisting primarily of the acceptance of membership into a category of people: male or female.[1] All societies have a set of gender categories that can serve as the basis of the formation of a social identity in relation to other members of society. In most societies, there is a basic division between gender attributes assigned to males and females. In all societies, however, some individuals do not identify with some (or all) of the aspects of gender that are assigned to their biological sex."
"Ontario’s Human Rights Code
The Ontario Human Rights Code (the Code) provides for equal rights and opportunities, and freedom from discrimination. The Code recognizes the dignity and worth of every person in Ontario, in employment, housing, facilities and services, contracts, and membership in unions, trade or professional associations.
People who are discriminated against or harassed because of gender identity are legally protected. This includes transsexual, transgender and intersex persons, cross-dressers, and other people whose gender identity or expression is, or is seen to be, different from their birth-identified sex."
In my photo, I am a person who is exasperated by the constant discrimination against me for my feelings. I feel more like the man that I am than the woman I was born.
I shaved my hair to a "male" style and wear men's clothing, but that's not enough.

Janice: I think there's a powerful story behind this picture, and it goes on to how people feel trapped when they're born into the wrong physical gender. It almost looks like Agyness has turned to alcoholism here from the depression, bullying, everything else. It really pulls on my heart strings. Nice face here, very expressive, but still pretty. But I feel it's lacking in fashion content.
Morgan: I feel your pain, sometimes I Morgan feel like a woman trapped in a mans body.
But jokes aside your explanation alongside with the photo helps to generate some raw emotion to the situation you are representing. There is a feeling of helplessness, despair and the feeling of being trapped. Although your pose and the setting helps to generate this feeling I would have liked to see you bringing some additional modelling and fashion elements. Overall I think this is a powerful conception but safe execution.
C. Viper: The theme connection and the description are definitely there and definitely strong. It's unfortunate that we're missing seeing a lot of you here since that definitely impacts the fashion category of the shot, but I can still appreciate this for the artistry you've given us.

David: Gun Control
Sorry for being late I have been studying for a test which I have in like 1 hour! In this photo my model is representing gun control. This photo is a one night stand gone bad! Other man came in and he's ready to clock him! For me personally I am pro gun control if only the person is not a total psycho!

Janice: Well, sex sells, and if you're selling me a gun... I'm not really interested in those guns in this picture, but it does make guns look very desirable. I think your explanation could've been stronger, but it's better than nothing. I'd like to point out that having a gun that close to your testicles and penis is not safe at all! I'm so conflicted! The face looks old and tired. Almost as old as Morgan, but not quite.
Morgan: My thats a very large GUN that you have there! I'm unsure both by your photo and your description whether you are representing pro or anti gun control, although your photo clearly does fit the general concept of gun control. You do look a little aged here especially in the face, not so much a classic look but more of a physically aged look. I appreciate the attempt to bring some sex appeal to the photo through your body however your torso looks a little disfigured to me perhaps I'm not so used to seeing so much muscle. Despite the criticisms you still look ruggedly handsome.
C. Viper: I do have to agree with Janice that your face could use a little touching up here, since you look a bit older than you actually are. You have a great body here with fantastic muscle definition, so I think we should just take a moment to appreciate that. The description you've given us could have been stronger, but the issue you've chosen is easily represented in the photo, so it wasn't vital to selling the photo.

Sanji: Tobacco Control
Definitely a hard week for Sanji. We all know how much smoking has been responsible for several diseases in almost everywhere. In here, i wanna show how smoking is not a good thing for anyone. Smokers can undermine the health of non-smokers in some environments. In here you can see how the smoke is going everywhere and it may risk the health of people near you. I guess you can also see how Sanji looks too skinny for the suit he uses, smoking cause that.

Janice: I must say, it was worth the wait for your lateness, because I really like this based on the picture along. The only weak part of the picture for me is the one, hugely out of proportion eye. I see this more of a pro-smoking picture than an anti-smoking picture, and have some trouble linking your reasons for it being anti-smoking to the picture. For example. I'm a non-smoker, but suits still look too big for me because I'm naturally skinny. Am I actually a smoker in my sleep? Good picture, wrong side of the issue.
Morgan: Morgan loves a good old smoke once in a while! But I don't look as as attractive as that when I do it. I agree with Janice in that the photo looks like more of a pro-smoking stance even though the environment around you looks unhealthy. I actually enjoy what seems to be your signature appearance of one eye showing through your mane of hair.
The lighting around you is picking up on some curvatures in your physical body making your skin appear to be soft and somewhat feminine which is a positive! Overall I think this is a strong submission.
C. Viper: Your eyebrows are going to be the bane of my existence in this competition, but I am doing my best to ignore them since they are a part of your character design and if you didn't have them in a photo, then it just wouldn't be you. I don't see this so much as an anti-tobacco ad as I see it as a pro-tobacco ad. Still, your description is pretty strong and you give a good case in selling the shot. I also like your styling and it's a nice pose.

Abbey: Animal Rights
Animal Rights expresses the idea that non-human animals should be entitled to possession of their own lives and should not be seen as human property to be used for food, clothing, research or entertainment. The documentary “Blackfish”, released earlier this year, brought lots of attention to this issue and shed some light on the controversial issue of keeping orcas (killer whales) captive in aquatic theme parks for human entertainment. These are highly intelligent animals that would normally travel up to 100 miles a day in the wild being forced to live captive lives in small tanks and with significantly shorter life spans.
In this picture, Abbey Lee represents an animal living in captivity. The weird umbrella thing she’s under looks like a bird cage that’s clearly too small for her. The hopeless expression of her face and the fact that her breasts are exposed represents the vulnerability and lack of privacy captive animals must deal with every day. The animal print bottoms and shoes are a nice touch too.

Janice: Morgan will be very disappointed over the lack of nipples, but he's also pleased at your nudity. I'm also pleased, because it's censored. First of all, I'll cover your explanation: Flawless and effective at explaining your choices and your thoughts, but also representations. There's no room for any grey area there, so well done. That being said, I can instantly see everything you say in the picture, and it makes it that much stronger. Great fashion, great modelling. Great picture. Nice.
Morgan: Just a technical question (the shows stakeholders require the answer to this question) how do you remove black squares that are covering delicious body parts from photos?
There is a great amount of symbolism going on here. The concept of you being largely nude represents being exposed to whatever treatment humans decide to impose on animals, the umbrella is a good representation of a cage and the facial expression you are showing gives off a vibe of bewilderment and curiosity (which killed the cat!) for the outside human world. Your upper body is nice and stretched out however your lower body is more scrunched up I would have liked to see your body elongating which would be hard to do in a cage though.
C. Viper: Even though it's just an umbrella, it does a great job creating a sense of entrapment and the symbolism is definitely strong here. This round, we've had a lot of models struggle with connecting to an issue, while still remembering that this is a modeling competition. You do not have that problem. Your issue is easy to see, your description is strong, and best of all, you look great as a model. All around strong work this round; once again showing us that keeping you a couple rounds ago, was the right decision.
